Redirect Delay (Pro)
Redirect delay lets you add a pause, measured in seconds, before ThankRedirect sends the customer to your custom page. This Pro feature gives customers a brief moment to see their order confirmation before the redirect fires.
Why Use a Redirect Delay?
By default, ThankRedirect redirects instantly. That’s fine for most stores, but there are situations where a short delay improves the experience:
- You want customers to briefly see “Your order has been received” before moving on
- You’re running analytics or tracking scripts that need a moment to fire on the Thank You page
- Your custom page doesn’t include order confirmation details and you want customers to briefly see WooCommerce’s confirmation
- You want to show a brief countdown message before redirecting (“You’ll be redirected in 5 seconds…”)
Setting Up Redirect Delay
- Go to ThankRedirect in your WordPress admin
- Find the Additional Settings or Redirect Delay section
- Enter the delay duration in seconds (e.g., enter
3for a 3-second delay) - Save your settings
Setting the delay to 0 or leaving it empty means the redirect fires immediately (default behaviour).
How the Delay Works
When a delay is configured, ThankRedirect uses JavaScript’s setTimeout to hold the redirect. The customer sees the WooCommerce Thank You page briefly before being taken to your custom destination.
The delay applies to all redirects — global, product, category, and all Pro redirect rules.
Tips
- Keep it short: 2–5 seconds is usually enough. Longer delays can feel frustrating and may cause customers to navigate away manually.
- Consider adding a message: On the WooCommerce Thank You page (or via a custom snippet), show a message like “Preparing your confirmation page…” so customers understand something is happening.
- Use with analytics: If you’re using ThankRedirect’s built-in Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel integration (Pro), note that those scripts fire on the destination page, not the interim WooCommerce page.
Pro tip: A 3-second delay combined with a “Redirecting to your order summary…” message on the WooCommerce page gives a polished, professional feel, especially for high-ticket products where customers may want a moment of confirmation before being moved on.
