Redirect by Payment Method (Pro)
Payment method redirects let you send customers to different pages based on how they paid. This is a Pro feature, and one of the most practical ones for stores that accept bank transfers, invoice payments, or other methods that require different post-purchase instructions.
How It Works
After an order is placed, ThankRedirect checks which payment method the customer used. If it matches one of your rules, the customer is sent to the destination you’ve configured for that payment method.
ThankRedirect automatically reads all active payment gateways from your WooCommerce settings, so only the payment methods you’ve enabled will appear in the selector.
Setting Up a Payment Method Redirect
- Go to ThankRedirect in your WordPress admin
- Find the Payment Method Redirects section
- Click Add New
- Select one or more payment methods from the dropdown (e.g., “Direct bank transfer”, “Check payments”, “PayPal”)
- Choose your redirect destination
- Save your settings
Common Use Cases
Bank Transfer (BACS) → Payment Instructions Page
When a customer chooses direct bank transfer, they need your banking details and instructions. Redirect them to a dedicated page with clear payment instructions, rather than burying it in the default order email.
Invoice Payments → Invoice Page
If you accept invoice payments for B2B customers, redirect them to a page showing their invoice details or a link to download their invoice.
Check Payments → Mailing Address Page
Redirect check-paying customers to a page with your mailing address and instructions for sending payment.
Buy Now Pay Later → BNPL Info Page
After a customer uses a BNPL service (Klarna, Afterpay, etc.), redirect them to a page explaining how their payment schedule works.
Priority
Payment method redirects are checked fifth, after variation, type, tag, and brand rules, but before user role, product, category, and global redirects. See How Redirect Priority Works.
Pro tip: This feature is especially valuable for stores with significant bank transfer or offline payment volume. A clear, dedicated payment instructions page reduces the number of “how do I pay?” support tickets dramatically.
