Redirect by User Role (Pro)
User role redirects let you send customers to different pages based on their WordPress user role. This Pro feature is ideal for stores with multiple customer types, such as wholesale buyers, members, and regular customers, who each need a different post-purchase experience.
How It Works
When an order is placed by a logged-in customer, ThankRedirect checks that customer’s user role. If it matches a redirect rule you’ve set up, the customer is sent to your configured destination.
Guest customers (not logged in) don’t have a user role, so user role redirects won’t match for guest orders. Those will fall through to the next matching rule (product, category, or global).
Setting Up a User Role Redirect
- Go to ThankRedirect in your WordPress admin
- Find the User Role Redirects section
- Click Add New
- Select the user role(s) from the dropdown. All roles registered on your WordPress site will appear here.
- Choose your redirect destination
- Save your settings
Common Use Cases
Wholesale Customers
Wholesale customers (using a plugin like WooCommerce Wholesale Prices or a custom “wholesale” role) get redirected to a wholesale-specific Thank You page, with bulk order confirmation, account manager contact details, or reorder links.
Members
After a member purchases, send them to their member dashboard or a personalised welcome back page rather than the generic Thank You page.
VIP Customers
Create a “VIP” user role and redirect those customers to an exclusive page with special offers, early access content, or a personal thank you message.
Resellers
Send resellers directly to your reseller portal or partner area after checkout.

Priority
User role redirects are checked sixth, after variation, type, tag, brand, and payment method rules, but before product, category, and global redirects. See How Redirect Priority Works.
