Why Is My Redirect Not Working?

If ThankRedirect isn’t sending customers to your custom page after checkout, work through these checks in order. Most redirect issues have a simple cause.

1. Check That a Redirect Is Actually Configured

Go to ThankRedirect → Settings and confirm that:

  • A Global Redirect is set (with either a page selected or a custom URL entered)
  • Your settings have been saved (click Save and look for the success confirmation)

If no redirect is configured, customers will stay on the default WooCommerce Thank You page — that’s expected behaviour.

2. Verify WooCommerce Is Active and Up to Date

ThankRedirect requires WooCommerce 7.9.0 or higher. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and check:

  • WooCommerce is installed and activated
  • WooCommerce version is 7.9.0 or newer

If there’s a version warning notice at the top of your admin, update WooCommerce first.

3. Test with a Fresh Order

ThankRedirect only fires on the woocommerce_thankyou hook — which triggers when a new order is completed through the standard checkout. It won’t fire if you:

  • Reload a previous Thank You page URL manually
  • Create a test order manually from the WooCommerce admin
  • Access the order URL directly from your browser

Always test by going through the actual checkout flow from cart → checkout → order complete.

4. Check for Plugin Conflicts

Another plugin may be modifying the checkout redirect before or after ThankRedirect.

  1. Temporarily deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and ThankRedirect
  2. Place a test order
  3. If the redirect works, reactivate plugins one by one to identify the conflict

Common conflicting plugin types:

  • Other Thank You page or checkout redirect plugins
  • One-click upsell or order bump plugins
  • WooCommerce checkout flow plugins (CartFlows, FunnelKit, etc.)

5. Check Your Theme

Some themes override the WooCommerce Thank You page template. If your theme has a custom thankyou.php in its WooCommerce template folder, it may be suppressing the action hook ThankRedirect uses.

To test: switch to the default WordPress theme (Twenty Twenty-Four) temporarily and place a test order. If the redirect works, the issue is in your theme’s WooCommerce template override.

6. Check for a Redirect Loop Warning

If customers see a “Too many redirects” browser error, ThankRedirect’s built-in loop protection has kicked in. The redirect cookie limit (5 redirects) may have been hit.

Clear your browser cookies and try again. See also: Why am I seeing a redirect loop?

7. Check the Redirect Destination URL

If you’re using a Custom URL, make sure:

  • The URL is complete and valid (starts with https:// or http://)
  • The destination page actually exists and loads correctly on its own
  • You haven’t accidentally included spaces or special characters in the URL

8. Check PHP Error Logs

If none of the above resolve the issue, check your server’s PHP error log for any PHP errors related to ThankRedirect. Errors in the plugin’s redirect logic (e.g., caused by a database issue or incompatible plugin) will be logged there.

Your hosting provider’s control panel usually has a way to view error logs, or you can enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php temporarily.

Still stuck? Contact Oxilab support with: your WordPress version, WooCommerce version, PHP version, a list of active plugins, and a description of exactly what happens when you place a test order. The more detail you provide, the faster the issue can be diagnosed.
