Redirect by Specific Product

Product redirects let you send customers to a different page depending on which specific product they purchased. This is one of the most useful features in ThankRedirect, perfect for upsell flows, product-specific welcome pages, or digital product delivery pages.

How It Works

When a customer completes an order, ThankRedirect checks whether any items in the order match a product redirect rule. If a match is found, the customer is sent to the URL or page you’ve set for that product, instead of the global redirect destination.

Product redirects take priority over category redirects and the global redirect, but are checked after all Pro-only rules (variations, type, tags, brands, payment method, user role).

Setting Up a Product Redirect

  1. Go to ThankRedirect in your WordPress admin
  2. Find the Product Redirects section
  3. Click Add New to create a new product redirect rule

Selecting Products

In the product selector field, start typing a product name. A dropdown will appear with matching products from your store. Select one or more products, as a single rule can apply to multiple products at once.

For example, you could select “Premium Course A”, “Premium Course B”, and “Premium Bundle” all in one rule if they should all redirect to the same course welcome page.

Choosing the Redirect Destination

As with the global redirect, you can send customers to:

  • WordPress Page: select from your existing pages
  • Custom URL: enter any full URL

Multiple Product Redirect Rules

You can create as many product redirect rules as you need. Each rule is checked independently. If an order contains products from multiple rules, the first matching rule wins.

Example setup:

  • Rule 1: “Online Course” → redirect to /course-welcome/
  • Rule 2: “Membership Plan” → redirect to /members-area/
  • Rule 3: “Physical T-Shirt” → uses global redirect (no product rule applies)

Real-World Examples

Digital Product Delivery

Redirect customers who bought a digital product to a dedicated download or access page, rather than the generic Thank You page.

Course Welcome Page

After purchasing an online course, send customers straight to the course welcome page or member login area.

Upsell Landing Page

Redirect buyers of a specific product to a one-time offer or upsell page immediately after purchase while they’re still in buying mode.

Consultation Booking

Redirect customers who purchased a consultation package to a booking calendar page.

Common Mistake to Avoid

Don’t add every single product as a separate rule if they all go to the same place. Instead, use the global redirect for your default, and only create product rules for products that need a different destination.

Pro tip: If you sell product variations (e.g., different colours or sizes), and you need different redirects per variation, not just per product, upgrade to Pro and use the Product Variation Redirect feature instead.
