Facebook Pixel Purchase Tracking (Pro)

Redirecting customers away from the default WooCommerce Thank You page breaks Facebook Pixel purchase tracking, because the Pixel’s Purchase event is typically fired on that page. ThankRedirect Pro re-fires the Purchase event on your custom Thank You page, keeping your Facebook Ads conversion data accurate.

Why This Matters for Facebook Ads

If you’re running Facebook or Instagram ads, your Pixel’s Purchase event is what tells Meta’s ad system which ads are generating real sales. Without it firing correctly, your ROAS reporting will be wrong, your campaigns won’t optimise properly, and your retargeting audiences won’t update.

ThankRedirect fires the Purchase event on your custom redirect destination — so your Pixel data stays accurate regardless of where you send customers after checkout.

What Data Is Sent

ThankRedirect sends the following to Facebook Pixel with each Purchase event:

  • Order total value
  • Currency code
  • Content type (product)
  • Contents array — product ID, name, quantity, and price for each item
  • Custom event name (if configured)

Setting Up Facebook Pixel Tracking

Step 1: Enable in ThankRedirect

  1. Go to ThankRedirect → Settings
  2. Find the Analytics section
  3. Toggle on Enable Facebook Pixel
  4. Optionally enter a Custom Event Name — defaults to Purchase
  5. Save your settings

Step 2: Make Sure Your Pixel Base Code Is on the Page

ThankRedirect fires the Purchase event — but you still need your Facebook Pixel base code (the snippet that initialises fbq) loaded on your custom Thank You page.

The Pixel base code is usually loaded site-wide through:

  • A Facebook/Meta plugin (e.g., Meta Pixel for WordPress, PixelYourSite)
  • Google Tag Manager — with a Pixel base code tag set to fire on all pages
  • Your theme’s custom header scripts

Make sure whichever method you use is firing on your redirect destination URL.

Step 3: Avoid Duplicate Purchase Events

If you already have a WooCommerce + Facebook Pixel plugin installed (e.g., PixelYourSite, Meta for WooCommerce), check whether it’s also firing a Purchase event on your custom Thank You page. If both fire, Facebook will count each sale twice — inflating your conversion numbers.

The safest approach:

  • Disable the Purchase event in your existing Pixel plugin for the Thank You page URL, and let ThankRedirect handle it
  • Or use only one method: either ThankRedirect or your existing plugin, not both

Step 4: Test with Meta Pixel Helper

  1. Install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension
  2. Place a test order and follow the redirect to your custom Thank You page
  3. Check the Pixel Helper — it should show a Purchase event with the correct order value

Custom Event Name

If your Facebook campaign is optimised for a custom conversion event rather than the standard Purchase event, enter your custom event name in ThankRedirect’s Analytics settings. ThankRedirect will fire that event name instead.

Pro tip: Use Meta’s Events Manager to verify your Pixel is receiving the Purchase event with the correct parameters. Go to Meta Business Manager → Events Manager → your Pixel → Test Events and place a test order while the test tool is active.
