Building a Custom Thank You Page
You don’t need to use a pre-built template. ThankRedirect works with any WordPress page, built with any page builder or the default Gutenberg editor. This guide walks you through building a custom Thank You page from scratch and connecting it to ThankRedirect.
Step 1: Create a New Page
- Go to Pages → Add New
- Give it a name like “Thank You” or “Order Confirmed”
- Set a clean permalink — something like
/thank-you/or/order-confirmed/
You can build this page with any tool you’re comfortable with — Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, Bricks, or any other page builder.
Step 2: Plan Your Page Layout
A good custom Thank You page typically includes:
- Headline: A warm, personalised confirmation (use
[wpkin_customer_name]) - Order summary: Order number, date, status, total
- Items purchased: What they bought (use
[wpkin_items]with Pro) - Next steps: What happens next? Shipping info, download links, member access
- CTA (optional): Upsell, share on social, referral invite
- Support info: How to get help if needed
Step 3: Add Shortcodes
Place shortcodes wherever you want live order data to appear. In any page builder, shortcodes go inside a Text widget or Shortcode widget.
Example headline block:
Thank you for your order, [wpkin_customer_name]! 🎉
Example order summary block:
Order: [wpkin_order_number]
Date: [wpkin_order_created_date]
Total: [wpkin_order_total]
Status: [wpkin_order_status]
Step 4: Handle the “No Order” State
When someone visits your Thank You page directly (not through a redirect from checkout), there’s no order in the URL. ThankRedirect shortcodes will show demo/placeholder text in this case — that’s normal and expected.
You can design around this by making the static page content work well on its own, with the shortcodes providing personalisation when real order data is present.
Step 5: Publish and Set as Redirect Destination
- Publish the page
- Go to ThankRedirect → Settings
- In the redirect rule you want (global or a specific rule), select this page as the destination
- Save settings
Page Builder Compatibility
ThankRedirect works with all major WordPress page builders:
| Page Builder | How to Add Shortcodes |
|---|---|
| Elementor | Shortcode widget, or Text widget with shortcode text |
| Gutenberg | Shortcode block |
| Divi | Code module or Text module |
| Beaver Builder | HTML module |
| Bricks | Text element or Shortcode element |
| Classic Editor | Paste shortcode directly into the content area |
Tips for a High-Converting Thank You Page
- Keep it focused: The main job is to confirm the order. Don’t overwhelm the customer with too many things at once.
- Match your brand: Colours, fonts, and tone should feel consistent with the rest of your store.
- Include a clear next step: Whether it’s “Check your email”, “Download your files”, or “Book your call”, give the customer one clear action.
- Add a sharing option: A simple “Tell a friend” button or social share widget can drive referrals from your most engaged customers (right after they’ve bought).
Pro tip: Test your page by completing a real test order. Look at the page from a customer’s perspective — is the order confirmation clear? Is the next step obvious? Would you feel confident after landing on this page?
