Frequently Asked Questions: Flipbox Plugin

Got a question about the Flipbox plugin? Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.

General Questions

Is Flipbox free?

Yes! The Flipbox plugin is available for free from the WordPress plugin directory. It includes 29 layout styles, 103 animation effects, full customization options, and support for Elementor, WPBakery, shortcodes, and widgets. A Pro version is also available with additional features.

Do I need to know how to code to use Flipbox?

No. Flipbox is designed for non-technical users. Everything is configured through a visual editor in the WordPress dashboard — no HTML, CSS, or PHP knowledge required. The optional Custom CSS field exists for those who want to go further, but it’s not required for day-to-day use.

How many flip boxes can I create?

There’s no limit. You can create as many flip boxes as you need. Each one is stored separately and can be displayed on any page or multiple pages simultaneously.

Can I use the same flip box on multiple pages?

Absolutely. Just use the same shortcode [oxilab_flip_box id="X"] on as many pages as you like. Update the content once in the Flipbox editor and it reflects everywhere automatically.

Installation & Activation

Do I need to install a separate plugin for the Pro version?

No. The Pro version is built into the same plugin. You just need to activate your license key to unlock Pro features. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins, find Flipbox, and click Activate License. See How to Activate Flipbox Pro for the full guide.

Where do I find my Pro license key?

After purchasing, your license key is sent by email. You can also find it at any time in your Oxilab account dashboard.

What are the minimum requirements to install Flipbox?

WordPress 6.2 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher. See System Requirements for full details.

Can I use Flipbox on a multisite WordPress installation?

Yes, Flipbox works on WordPress Multisite. You’ll need to activate it per site (or network-activate it, depending on your setup). Each site in the network manages its own flip boxes independently.

Features & Customization

Can I add HTML inside the flip box description?

Some styles may support basic HTML in the description field. However, Flipbox is primarily designed for plain text content in the back description field. For complex HTML layouts, use the Custom CSS field along with the text fields, or consider embedding the flip box in a page builder where you have more layout control.

Can I change the flip direction (horizontal vs. vertical)?

The flip direction is determined by the layout style you chose when creating the flip box. Different styles use different flip mechanics — horizontal flip (flipInX), vertical flip (flipInY), overlay effects, and more. To use a different flip direction, you’d need to select a different style when creating the flip box.

Can I set different animations for individual cards?

No — the animation is set at the flip box level and applies to all cards in that flip box equally. Individual card animations are not supported in the current version.

Can I put a flip box inside another shortcode or widget?

Yes. The Flipbox shortcode works anywhere WordPress processes shortcodes, including inside text widgets (with widget shortcode processing enabled in settings), inside compatible shortcode wrapper plugins, and in PHP templates via do_shortcode().

Does Flipbox support RTL (right-to-left) languages?

The plugin itself is translation-ready and supports RTL layouts through WordPress’s built-in RTL stylesheet system. However, specific RTL visual alignment for flip box content may require CSS adjustments depending on your language and theme combination.

Performance

Will Flipbox slow down my website?

Flipbox is designed to load only the CSS and JavaScript needed for the specific styles you use. It does not load all 29 style stylesheets on every page — only the styles relevant to the flip boxes displayed on that page. To further optimize, disable Font Awesome or Google Fonts loading in settings if your theme already loads them.

Does Flipbox work with caching plugins?

Yes. Flipbox works with all major caching plugins (WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, etc.). After updating a flip box, clear your site cache to ensure visitors see the latest version. See also Flip Box Not Showing on Frontend if caching causes issues.

Compatibility

Does Flipbox work with Elementor Pro?

Yes. The Flipbox widget is available in both Elementor (free) and Elementor Pro. It appears in the General widget category and works the same way in both versions.

Does Flipbox work with the Gutenberg block editor?

Yes. Use a Shortcode block in the Gutenberg editor to embed your flip box using the shortcode: [oxilab_flip_box id="X"].

Is Flipbox compatible with WPML or Polylang for multilingual sites?

Flipbox stores content in its own database tables (not WordPress posts), which means standard WPML/Polylang string translation may not apply directly. For multilingual sites, the recommended approach is to create separate flip boxes for each language and use the appropriate shortcode/widget on each translated page.

Troubleshooting

My flip box shows blank after deletion of another plugin. What happened?

If a plugin that was loading dependencies (like jQuery or Font Awesome) was removed, Flipbox may lose access to those dependencies. Check that jQuery is still loading on your pages and that Font Awesome is either loaded by Flipbox (in settings) or by your theme.

Where do I get support?

Support for the free version is available through the WordPress.org plugin support forum. Pro license holders can contact Oxilab directly for priority support via their Oxilab account. When reporting an issue, always include your WordPress version, PHP version, active plugins list, and steps to reproduce the problem.
