How to Use Flipbox as a WordPress Widget
The Flipbox plugin registers a WordPress widget that lets you display any flip box in any widget-ready area on your site — sidebars, footers, page-specific widget zones, and more.
Prerequisites
- Flipbox plugin must be installed and active
- At least one flip box must be created and saved in the Flipbox plugin
- Your theme must have at least one widget area (most themes have a sidebar, footer, etc.)
Note: Most modern WordPress themes using Full Site Editing (FSE/block themes) may not have traditional widget areas. In that case, use the Shortcode method or Elementor widget instead.
Step 1: Note Your Flip Box ID
- Go to Flipbox in the WordPress admin sidebar.
- Find the flip box you want to display.
- Note its ID number (shown in the shortcode column, e.g.,
[oxilab_flip_box id="3"]— the ID is 3).
Step 2: Open the WordPress Widgets Screen
- Go to Appearance → Widgets in the WordPress admin.
- You’ll see all the available widget areas defined by your theme (e.g., “Sidebar”, “Footer Widget 1”, etc.).
Step 3: Add the Flipbox Widget
In the Classic Widgets Screen:
- In the list of available widgets, find “Flipbox – Awesomes Flip Boxes Image Overlay”.
- Drag it to the widget area where you want to display it (e.g., Footer Widget 1).
- The widget settings will expand.
- In the Title field, enter the ID number of the flip box you want to display (e.g.,
3). - Click Save.
In the Block-Based Widgets Screen (WordPress 5.8+):
- Click the + button in the widget area to add a new block.
- Search for Flipbox or Shortcode.
- Add the Flipbox widget block (or use a Shortcode block and paste
[oxilab_flip_box id="3"]). - In the widget settings, enter the flip box ID.
- Click Update.
Step 4: Check the Result
Visit your website and navigate to a page that shows the widget area (e.g., any page with the sidebar, or the footer). You should see your flip box displayed in that area.
Is the Widget Good for Sidebars?
Sidebars are typically narrow, often 250–350px wide. A flip box in a sidebar works best if you set the flip box to 1 column and a width that fits within the sidebar width. Consider using a simpler style with minimal content for best results in narrow areas.
When to Use the Widget vs. Shortcode vs. Elementor
| Method | Best For |
|---|---|
| Widget | Adding to sidebars, footers, or other theme widget areas |
| Shortcode | Adding inside post/page content with the block editor |
| Elementor widget | Building pages with Elementor — drag-and-drop in the visual editor |
| Visual Composer element | Building pages with WPBakery / Visual Composer |
