Managing User Permissions for Flipbox

By default, only Administrators can access and manage flip boxes in the WordPress dashboard. The Flipbox plugin includes a User Permission setting that lets you open access to other user roles — useful if you have editors or content managers who need to update flip box content without full admin access.

How to Change the User Permission Setting

  1. Go to Flipbox → Settings in the WordPress admin.
  2. Find the User Permission setting (labeled “Who can manage this plugin”).
  3. Select the user role you want to grant access to.
  4. Click Save Settings.

Available WordPress User Roles

Role Default Access Level
Administrator Full site control — full Flipbox access by default
Editor Can manage all posts and pages — often a good choice for Flipbox access
Author Can manage their own posts — limited overall access
Contributor Can write posts but not publish — rarely appropriate for Flipbox access
Subscriber Minimal access (read-only) — not recommended for Flipbox access

Who Should Get Access?

The right choice depends on your team structure:

  • Administrator only (default) – Best for sites where only one person manages everything. Most secure option.
  • Editor – Good choice if you have a dedicated content manager or editor who needs to update flip box content (descriptions, titles, images) regularly.
  • Author – Rarely needed. Only grant this if you have a specific reason for authors to manage flip boxes.

Security note: The user permission setting opens access to the Flipbox plugin editor, which allows creating, editing, and deleting flip boxes. Only grant access to roles you trust with content management. The ability to add custom CSS in flip boxes means this access should be given thoughtfully.

Custom Roles

If your WordPress site uses custom user roles (created by a role management plugin like User Role Editor or Members), those roles should also appear in the permission dropdown, allowing you to grant Flipbox access to a custom role that fits your exact needs.

What Happens After Changing the Setting?

Once you save the new permission setting:

  • Users with the selected role (and above) will see the Flipbox menu item in their WordPress admin sidebar
  • They can create, edit, and delete flip boxes
  • They can access Flipbox settings

Users below the selected role will not see the Flipbox menu and cannot access it.
