Overview of the 29 Flip Box Layout Styles
The Flipbox plugin comes with 29 professionally designed layout styles built in. Each style is a complete visual template — different structure, card shape, flip direction, and visual arrangement. You don’t need to design from scratch; just pick the style closest to your vision and customize the colors, fonts, and content.
What Is a Layout Style?
A layout style defines the foundational structure and appearance of your flip box cards. It controls things like:
- Whether the image is at the top, center, or fills the entire front face
- Where the title and icon sit relative to the image
- The shape of the card (square, tall, wide, circular)
- The direction of the flip (horizontal, vertical, or a different reveal effect)
- The overall visual mood (minimal, bold, card-style, overlay-style)
All other settings — colors, fonts, sizes, animations — are customized on top of the chosen style.
How to Choose a Style When Creating a Flip Box
- Go to Flipbox → Create New.
- In the dialog, you’ll see layout options to choose from.
- Pick the layout that most closely resembles your desired end result.
- Once selected, you can customize every visual detail in the editor.
Note: The style you choose at creation sets the base structure. While you can customize colors, fonts, and content extensively, changing to a completely different base style later requires creating a new flip box.
Style Categories & Use Cases
While all 29 styles are individually unique, they generally fall into a few categories based on their design approach:
Image-Centric Styles
Styles where the image takes up most of the front face. Great for:
- Team member profiles (headshot fills the card)
- Portfolio or project showcase
- Product displays
Icon + Title Styles
Styles designed around a centered icon and heading, with a clean, minimal front face. Great for:
- Services sections
- Feature lists
- Category navigation
Overlay Styles
Styles where the back face content slides or fades in over the front face image, rather than fully flipping the card. Great for:
- Portfolio hover effects
- Image gallery with descriptions
- Blog post teasers
Card Flip Styles
Classic flip box styles where the entire card flips to reveal the back. The classic 3D flip effect. Great for:
- Pricing tables
- FAQ cards
- “Before / After” comparisons
Importing Additional Templates
Beyond the 29 built-in styles, Flipbox also offers additional pre-designed templates you can import. These are fully styled flip boxes with sample content — import one, swap out the content, and you’re done.
To import a template:
- Go to the Flipbox home screen.
- Click the Import More Templates button (top right of the page).
- Browse the available templates and click Import on the one you want.
- The template will be added to your flip boxes list and ready to edit.
Can I Change the Style After Creating a Flip Box?
The base style is set at the time of creation. However, since each style is just a starting point for customization, you have extensive control over the final look. In most cases, careful customization of colors, fonts, and sizing can make any style look quite different from its default state.
If you want a completely different structure, the best approach is to create a new flip box with the preferred style and then recreate your content in it.
Pro Tip: When testing different styles, create a few flip boxes in draft/test mode with placeholder content before committing to one. Use descriptive names like “Services: Style 3 Test” to keep track of your experiments.
