Display Post: Show WordPress Posts with Hover Effects

Pro Feature: Display Post requires the Image Hover Effects Ultimate Pro license.

The Display Post extension lets you automatically pull WordPress posts and display them as hover effect cards — no manual image uploading needed. Post thumbnails become the hover image, and you control the style using an existing hover effect you’ve already built.

Step 1: Navigate to Display Post

Go to Dashboard → Image Hover. On the main page, scroll down to the Extensions section and click the Display Post card.

Step 2: Create a New Display Post Style

You’ll see a grid of layout templates. Click Create Style on any template that matches your desired layout.

A modal will appear. Enter a Name for this shortcode (e.g., “Blog Posts Grid”), then click Save.

Step 3: Select a Post Style

The Post Style field is the most important setting. It links your Display Post to an existing hover effect shortcode — this controls everything about how each post card looks: the image overlay, text, animations, and hover behavior.

Haven’t created a hover effect yet? Start here:

Once you have a shortcode ready, select it from the Post Style dropdown.

Step 4: Configure Post Query

Control which posts are displayed:

  • Post Type: Choose which post type to pull (Posts, Pages, or custom types)
  • Author: Filter posts by a specific author (optional)
  • Category: Limit posts to a specific category
  • Tags: Filter by tag
  • Include: Show only specific post IDs
  • Exclude: Hide specific post IDs

Step 5: Configure Post Condition

  • Per Page: Number of posts to display
  • Excerpt Word Limit: How many words to show in the excerpt overlay
  • Offset: Skip a number of posts from the beginning
  • Order By: Sort by date, title, menu order, etc.
  • Order Type: Ascending (ASC) or Descending (DESC)
  • Image Size: Choose the thumbnail size (thumbnail, medium, large, full)
  • Load More: Enable a load more button or infinite scroll

Step 6: Save and Get the Shortcode

Click Save. Your shortcode will appear at the top of the page — copy it and paste it anywhere in your site: a page, post, widget, or page builder block.

Notes

  • Post thumbnails are used as the hover images. Posts without a featured image will display a placeholder.
